Te Mana Pūtahi is committed to protecting the privacy, dignity, and mana of all members. We collect, use, and manage personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and in a way that reflects our values of manaakitanga, respect, and accountability.
What we collect
We collect personal and professional information necessary to support membership and our role as a peak body. This may include contact details, workforce information, areas of practice, and organisational affiliation.
We only collect information for lawful purposes connected to our work and ensure it is relevant and not excessive.
Why we collect your information
We collect and use member information to:
- Manage membership and communication
- Provide support, resources, and workforce development opportunities
- Inform advocacy, policy engagement, and research
- Strengthen collective insights to improve outcomes for Māori health and social care
Providing information is voluntary; however, some information may be required to access membership services.
How we protect your information
We take reasonable steps to ensure all personal information is secure and protected from loss, misuse, or unauthorised access. Access is limited to authorised personnel and handled with care.
We also take steps to ensure information is accurate, up to date, and relevant before it is used.
How we use and share information
We use personal information only for the purposes it was collected or for closely related purposes.
We do not share personal information with third parties without your consent unless:
- it is required by law, or
- it is necessary to prevent a serious threat to health or safety
In some cases, we may use de-identified (non-identifiable) data for research, reporting, and advocacy to strengthen the Māori health and social care sector.
How long we keep information
We retain personal information only for as long as it is needed to fulfil the purpose it was collected for and to meet any legal obligations.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of your information
- Withdraw your membership and request removal of your details
Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach occurs that may cause serious harm, Te Mana Pūtahi will notify affected individuals and the Privacy Commissioner, in line with legal requirements.
